Heel Pain

Severe heel pain can make performing your daily tasks extremely difficult. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain and can seriously slow you down if not quickly treated. It is caused by the irritation and inflammation of a band of tissue that spans from your heel to your toes and helps provide support for your foot.

Plantar fasciitis is often worst when you take your first steps after resting and can feel like a sharp pain in your heel. After the initial pain of stepping down, the discomfort often progresses to a deep, dull ache which can make it difficult to stand or walk for long periods of time.

The longer you leave heel pain untreated, the more difficult it is to resolve. Using a combination of treatments, Dr. Pierson can help you relieve your heel and arch pain using therapies such as steroid injections, physical therapy, oral medication, stem cells, exercise and functional arch support.

Although heel pain is most commonly caused by plantar fasciitis, Dr. Pierson can also diagnose and treat other pathology that may be causing heel pain:

  • Calcaneus (heel bone) fracture

  • Bursitis – inflammation of the fluid filled sacs that protect the heel

  • Sever’s Disease – a form of heel pain in youth caused by inflammation of the growth plate in the heel

  • Arthritis – many different forms of arthritis can affect the heel and cause pain

  • Sprains and strains
